FG rejects ranking of Port Harcourt airport as worst in the world

The federal government has rejected the recent survey placed the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Rivers State at the top of the worst airports in the world.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation, Hajia Binta Bello, said the survey conducted by SleepingInAirports.net, a travel website that reviews the best and worst airports in the world, do not describe facts of the Nigerian airports.

annually conducts a survey website by asking air travelers to rate their experiences based on airport services and facilities available within the terminal, cleanliness, customer service, comfort and their overall airport experience.
According to the website, the voters suggested that in addition to being the worst airport in the world, should also be crowned the most corrupt in the world airport Port Harcourt Airport.
Surprisingly, this is the first time that a Nigerian airport is ranked the worst airport in the world on the website.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos on the part of the 21st annual seminar of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (Laac), the permanent secretary said Nigerian airports are not as bad as described in the survey.
Mrs. Binta admitted that while there are challenges in some of the international airport because of construction works that are ongoing, the challenge will be over as soon as the project is completed.

He added that the ongoing new terminal in Lagos, Kano, Abuja and Port Harcourt were completed and commissioned the first quarter of next year.
At the airport rating, he said, “It is up to the reader to agree or disagree with the rating. When I saw the rating, the question I asked was that we need still touts the airport , is our dirty airport, we are corrupt, we agree with all the questions? This is something I can not categorically say, ‘yes we are corrupt, our airport is not clean, our airports is chock-full, and so on. I am sure that you can actually see if the airport is really dirty, they are full of touts and if they are chaotic.
“This morning I flew in through Abuja airport and about five airlines will be boarding at the same time. I did not see any trouble there, it was a smooth operation, the passengers were going to their various -other bus meant for the airline and the whole operation is very smooth. ”
“So I do not accept that the airport is dirty, as I could not accept that the airport is congested. If we have a temporary challenges due to the construction of the terminal that occurs in Abuja for example, We all know that there is a lot of work going on there. If we have a temporary challenge, this is something that will come in the past immediately re-modeling of the terminal is completed, “he added.
