Security operatives in Abia State have intensified efforts
to curb crime in the state by ensuring that all hoodlums and criminal
hideouts are exposed within few seconds of available information.
The Police Command in the state has combed Ekenobisi, Umuokpara, in
Umuahia, the Abia State Capital, to apprehend a suspected ritualist,
Marshal Nwankwo.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Onyeke Udeviotu, disclosed
that Nwankwo killed a hunchback, Ukata Iheme, and buried him in a
shallow grave, where a pair of sandals was confirmed to belong to the
deceased as well as his shorts, which is in a nearby cassava plantation.
He also revealed that angry youths took laws into the hands by
destroying Nwankwo’s house, who is now in police custody, while the
worship centre and house of his accomplice, Emeka Okoye, who is at large
was completely ruined.
Similarly, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) also
arrested some drug peddlers at an undisclosed hotel in Aba, the
commercial city of Abia State.
The suspects were caught with wraps of Indian hemp and an undisclosed
quantity of suspected cocaine which were confiscated though, the
suspects denied.
The NDLEA Commandant in Abia State, Bamidele Akingbade, said there
was no truth in the suspects’ denial, maintaining that the arrest was
made based on information at their disposal.
He hinted that the agency was strategising on ways to curtail illicit
drug trafficking in the state by partnering with hoteliers where the
hoodlums occupy.
