According to Punch News --The Kogi state governorship election held Saturday went peacefully in
all the 21 Local government area of the state aside some little upheaval
in Anyigba, Dekina LG where hoodlums attack some polling units.
It took the efforts of security operatives who were drafted to the
area to arrest some of the hoodlums and brought the situation under
control.
Though INEC polling officials arrived early at their duties post
along with voting materials but their was mixed feeling on the use of
card reader as some of the card readers malfunction forcing the official
to result to the use of manual accreditation.
One of the victims of the card reader malfunctioning was the Governor of the state, Capt. Idris Wada who by 11:30 am had gone for accreditation only for his finger print to be rejected by the card reader.
Also, there was a mild drama at the odu 001 polling unit in
Ogboyaga, Dekina LG, when the name of the governors wife, Hajia Halima
Wada, was not found on the voters list.
However, the deputy governor of the state, Yomi Awoniyi has expressed fear that the APC will still rig the election.
Yomi stated this shortly after casting his vote along with his wife,
Tokunbo Awoniyi at the Ileteju Ward 002, in Mopa, Mopamuro LG said,
information reaching him shows that 10 buses carrying ‘foreign’ body
were seeing entering the state.
“We (PDP) can only win this election if it is free and fair, but will
doubt that, judging by the body language of the opposition. But going
by our projection, PDP will win with 55 percent of the votes.”
Though their were huge turnout of voters at many of the gladiators
home town across the state, some other places visited reflect voters
apathy.
The candidate of the Labour party Dr. Philip Salau said the exercise
is orderly except few polling units where he had information that card
readers are not functioning and late arrival of materials.
” Before now, we had reliable information that a political party
would jammed the card readers to justify the use of manual accreditation
so that they can thumprint the ballot papers. We petitioned INEC on
this and it seems our prediction is right,” he said
Also speaking the Senior Special Assistance to the Governor on Okene local government, Yahaya Karaku, commended INEC for early arrival of
materials.”If things continue and end the way they started, credit
would go to President Muhammadu Buhari. Things are going well smoothly
and materials arrive on time.”
Aside this development, their were hitches by security operative
reaching their point of deployment as many of them have to seek for
‘black market’ to get fuel for their vehicle to take them to their
respective destination.
This development resulted to security operative showing up late at
some of the polling unit while some did not even get to their post until
after accreditation.
Aside the land survey, their were regular aerial patrol by security personnel which brings about calm to the atmosphere.
