A fresh
attack by the Islamic sect- Boko Haram, at Bara town of Gulani local
government area of Yobe state has reportedly left many residents dead.
Daily post
reports that a top police officer who confirmed the attack said the Yobe
state commissioner of police, Zannah Ibrahim had since rushed to the
scene of the attack to assess the extent of havoc wrecked on the town.
However, the official did not give any casualty figure.
The town
which currently lacks basic amenities and telecom services due to
militants incessant vandalism was again raided on Wednesday, October 28.
Residents
said the militants burnt down houses, shops, foodstuffs, among other
valuables, using Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Mallam Sule Yaji, a resident who spoke to newsmen in Damaturu, said: “They stormed the town chanting ‘Allahu Akbar’ as locals took to their heels into the bushes for safety.”
Yaji disclosed that the insurgents who arrived the town in large numbers burnt several houses during the coordinated attack.
According to
him, some of the residents caught up in the houses set ablaze were
receiving treatment at Bajoga Hospital in neighbouring Gombe state.
President
Buhari ordered the Nigerian military to bring the insurgency in the
Northeast to an end by December, however, recent attacks by the
insurgents have led some to say that the deadline stipulated by the
president might not be feasible.
